A limited number of exam centers for in-person practical examinations​ are now open. Registration is on a first come, first served basis, so consider registering today to secure your preferred date and time. We encourage you to speak with your teacher to determine which session is best for you.For remote examinations, candidates can request exam dates between two weeks and 90 days from the date of registration. Starting in early March, June dates will become available. Additional dates will be added daily.The RCM Certificate Program is continuing to explore opportunities to safely open more exam centers and levels for future sessions. We appreciate your patience as changing conditions continue to impact our plans for the return to in-person exams.
Please review the Royal Conservatory’s health and safety policies and the information below with details about the May/June session. We encourage you to visit the website often, as policies will continue to be revised as appropriate, in response to changing conditions and the guidelines issued by the relevant authorities.

How will exams proceed?
  1. Practical Examinations: Safety is enhanced when traffic is lighter, therefore in-person exams will be offered only for candidates at Levels 5 and higher. However, candidates at all levels will continue to have access to the remote examination process that has been so effective throughout the pandemic. Exam centers for Levels 5 and up will be selected according to the level of demand based on the historic number of candidates. 
    • Depending upon local health departments and government guidelines at the time of the exam, all persons seeking access to an RCM exam center may need to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (as defined by Government regulations) prior to being admitted. 
    • Depending upon local health departments and government guidelines at the time of the exam, face coverings may be mandatory during in-person exams by students, examiners, and collaborative pianists, except when playing a wind/brass instrument, singing, and speech arts candidates performing for their exam. 
    • Options will be provided to students if an exam center is unable to operate as planned*. 
    • For remote examinations, candidates can request exam dates between two weeks and 90 days from the date of registration. Starting in early March, June dates will become available. Additional dates will be added daily throughout March. 
  2. Intermediate Theory and History Exams:Theory Levels 5–8, and History 9, 10, and ARCT, will be offered online. There is no deadline to register for these exams. Please review the Theory Exam Overview chart for details. 
  3. Advanced Theory** Examinations: All Advanced Theory exams will be conducted remotely via Zoom and must be registered through a MyRCM account. Within the exam registration app, these exams will be listed under the “In Person session”; however, the exam will be conducted online via Zoom.
